As it was pointed out (Gasparski, 2005), inappropriate behavior in companies is not caused
by the fact that people working there are less ethical than other people but by the fact that
not enough attention is given to developing ethical behaviors inside organizations, to
enhance a strong ethics foundation of a leadership pattern. It is argued that unethical
behavior is often structural in its nature. Ethical people can go astray by working in the
environment based on irresponsibility whereas in a system with operational ethical
infrastructure even people of questionable reputations could become better or at least are
kept under control. Much of the unethical conduct is the result of style of leadership and
organizational culture that sending mixed messages from top management to employees
about what’s important and what’s expected. Therefore an ethical infrastructure based on
the proper leadership model – a major way to develop a relationship between the company
and its staff – is critical in the process of adopting responsibility-based practices throughout
organization.
