Urinary stoma pouches have
a drain valve at the bottom of the
pouch to facilitate emptying.
During the day, the pouch is emptied when it is about one-third to
one-half full. At night, the urinary
pouch is connected to a drainage
system to allow urine to draininto a larger collection bottle,
reducing the number of times a
patient has to get up to empty the
pouch (Colwell, 2004).
