To investigate the performance of the developed wheel
motor it is necessary to accurately characterize the machine.
The machine characteristic data are used to develop an
accurate machine model which includes the effect of magnetic
non-linearity and cross coupling effects. For that regard the
method presented in [9] has been used. The important machine
parameters are the d- and the q-axes flux linkages as function
of the both axis currents. Figures 8 (b) and (c) show the
measured respective flux linkages of the developed AFPM
machine calculated using the method presented in [9]. Figure
8(a) verifies the accuracy of the calculated flux linkages of
Figures 8 (b) and (c) where the flux linkages are used to
calculate the torque and later compared with the measured
torque.
