Police are on the lookout for a taxi driver who robbed a Myanmar couple on Saturday and sped away with the pregnant wife after dropping her husband by the roadside.
The couple, identified by police only as Su, 30, and Imu, 26, had taken a bus from Mae Sot district in Tak province on Friday night and arrived in Rangsit in Pathum Thani the following morning. They then caught a yellow and green taxi to drive them to Samut Prakan province.
The driver stopped to pick up two friends along the way and when the car reached an isolated location on Chiang Rak Road, the three men took the male passenger out of the vehicle, attacked him and left him at a roadside dump site.
The driver and his accomplices then sped off with the woman who is two months pregnant, as well as 600 baht in cash, a mobile phone and the passports of the couple.
Pol Lt Col Chaiyant Daoruang, chief investigator of the police station in Sam Khok district, said the husband could not remember the registration plate of the taxi.
Police were checking footage of all closed-circuit cameras in the area including those installed in locations that the robbers could possibly have used as escape routes, he added.
