The difference in effect on food intake and conversion efficiency
can be due to the behavior and physiology of the shrimp at the different
treatments. In this study, the FCEd of shrimps was highest but the
FId was lowest in CL. In contrast, the FCEd of shrimps was lowest and
the FId was highest in FL1. This suggests that although food intake
was lower in CL, this resulted in more efficient conversion to body tissue
and better growth. In FL1, varying light intensities resulted in
higher food intake but this did not translate to better growth. In
FL3, although FId was high, FCEd was also high so fastest growth
was attained. Maybe this mode of light intensity fluctuation was
more beneficial to the growth of L. vannamei.
