Experiment: Curve (i) in Fig. 2 shows the 1554 nm surviving channel
induced transient when 15 out of 16 drop is performed at 10 Hz
repetition rate, 50% duty cycle for an 80 cm-long OGC-EYDFA. Note
that the system operates very close to laser threshold and only 4%
extra pump power is needed for clamping operation. Even very close
to laser threshold we note reduced maximum overshoot below
0.02 dB. To compare short EYDFA and longer optical amplifier, we
performed a second set of measurements, adding extra SMF into the
cavity. In this way the second operation condition is fully equivalent
to a longer OA with the same performance in terms of gain and noise.
