During recent years there has been a growing appreciation of the
importance of parking issues in the overall context of urban transport
problems (McShane and Meyer, 1982; Polak, 1988; Young, 1990).
Accompanying this, there has been a growth in the quantity and quality of
parking related research work both in the U.K. and overseas. There are still
however, many aspects of parking behaviour that have considerable policy
significance but which are not well understood and on which further
research effort is warranted. One such under-researched aspect of parking
behaviour centres on the area of parking search. This paper addresses
three key questions in relation to current and proposed research efforts
concerned with parking search
