The onset of puberty in heifers is positively correlated with BW. Although BW affects estrous detection and BCS is
an indirect measure of BW, BCS was not associated with RTS or reproductive outcomes [25,26]. In this study, BCS of
heifers significantly affected reproductive outcome. The BCS at the beginning of breeding season and change in BCS from
calving to breeding significantly affected reproductive performance. Although BW affects estrous detection, BCS did not affect RTS [25], consistent with the present study (BCS by RTS: P > 0.1). Furthermore, the heifers’ age did not
influence the reproductive outcome when BCS and RTS were offered in the model (P > 0.1). Even though age was not
different between breeding groups, the BCS and RTS are probably more influential on the reproductive outcome than
the heifer’s age.
