The project is located in the province of Svay Rieng, some 135 km to the east of the capital city, Phnom Penh. The Santi Sena community forest covers an area of 500 ha that had been totally logged by 1994, when the local pagoda formed a non-government organisation to undertake activities in environmental protection and awareness raising, agricultural development, and the promotion of peace in the aftermath of three decades of war.
