2.4.4. Tissue extraction for endosulfan
Tissue was extracted using a modified method that was originally described by
the IAEA (1998) [9,10]. One gram of tissue sample was homogenized with 0.3 g of
anhydrous sodium sulfate using a homogenizer. Tissue was spiked with 0.4 ml of
1 N HCl for chemical clean-up and the sample was mixed thoroughly on a vortex
mixer. Then tissue samples were extracted with 2 2 ml of ethyl acetate. The
organic phases were collected and then evaporated under a stream of nitrogen. The
residue was dissolved in ethyl acetate and spiked with internal standard (aldrin,
1 mg/ml), and 1 ml was injected into the GC/MS system in the final step.
