This version of the above story continuation games focuses more specifically on getting students to think and requires two teams, each following prompts which present both sides of an issue. It is really a written debate with each side presenting and following the pros and cons of a specific issue. The issues can be determined by the students themselves arising from their own lives and experiences or they can be given a list of debate topics from which to choose. As with debates, some preparation is needed and the two groups should be given a chance to discuss their side of the topic before the writing begins. I also allow them to converse with each other as the writing progresses. The opening sentence can be given in a handout which might also outline a few facts in bulleted or list form so as to require the students to form sentences.
