The inhabitants of the neighbourhoods live in fear of eviction since the landlords stopped collecting rents. This fear increased when in the year 2000 a group of highland people was evicted from an area near the slaughterhouse. The pretext was that the Municipal Authority wanted space to make a recreation ground as a part of a project to prevent drug addiction. Moreover, these three communities were afraid because they had supported the losing side in the last municipal election. Furthermore, The people felt that the government was planning to make the dyke into a tourist attraction, and they had been blamed for the stagnation of the waterway and the ugliness of area.
