From whatever angle one looks at the concept of war, there are some common characterisdcs which it shares with genocide. War, like genocide, involves killing either with weapon or raw force. Aside this, it alsoflagsthe following hallmarks:
1. Two or more armed parties are involved.
2. There is usually a certain level of organisation involved on both sides.
3. It is always protracted.
Small and Singer (1982: 214-215) believe that war is a battle which involves deaths of one thousand (1000) or more people in a year.
