TANGKAK: Three died and another severely injured after the car they were travelling in crashed into a tree near Kampung Serom 6 at Sungai Mati here.
Fire and Rescue Department operation commander Izuan Mohamad said a distress call was received over the incident at about 5.30am on Thursday.
"The victims were all pinned inside the car as the front portion of the vehicle was badly damaged due to the impact of the crash.
"The engine of the car had smashed into the front driver's seat. It took us about 45 minutes to free the victims," he said when contacted here.
Ledang OCPD Supt Mohamad Salleh Abd Razak confirmed accident and said that the driver identified as Hamdan Talib, 50, was heading towards Bukit Gambir when tragedy struck.
He added that Hamdan along with the front passenger his Fazillah Rashid, 33, and her five-year-old son Muhammad Danish Aiman died on the spot.
He said Fazillah's older son whose identity was yet to be confirmed sustained severe injuries to his head.
Hamdan and Fazillah were acquaintances residing at Felda Batu 27 Lenga in Muar.
"We are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving," he said adding that the deceased had been sent to the Tangkak Hospital for a post mortem.
