Periodic Pull System (PPS) was created and demonstrated as a
theoretical model by Kim (1985) as an alternative to the original
kanban. While pull is in the name of the adaptation, this variation
in the kanban system pushes production. The slight difference
between them is the way the information is transferred. PPS
proposes the use of computerized system, using mathematical
equations in order to reduce the information processing time. This
can be done by managing the material flow status of every process
periodically. As results, only the exact amount of materials used in
a certain workstation is produced by the corresponding process.
In addition, every accumulated production requirement of each
stage is known at the beginning of a planning period, this way, the
sequencing of similar products and the allocation of workers can
be done in advance, before the next period.
