Stationary Pivot (Spin)
This maneuver is essential for helping a student change directions quickly during a game or activity.
The stationary pivot or spin is performed by using a push-pull technique in coordination with proper weight shift.
The direction of spin is determined by which wheel is pulled and which wheel is pushed.
The spin will always move in the direction of the pulled wheel.
The stationary pivot is taught from the basic forward propulsion position described earlier.
The stationary pivot is the basic movement for the bounce stop and bounce spin in wheelchair basketball (chapter 3).
To execute the stationary pivot, the student extends one arm down the handrim of the tire on the side of the intended spin (right arm for a pivot to the right).
