Rice farm participants had significantly greater OP and PYR
metabolite concentrations indicative of exposure than children
living on aquaculture farms. But rice farm participants did not
perform significantly worse on neurobehavioral measures than
aqua farm participants during high or low pesticide use seasons.
Nevertheless, confidence intervals for differences in adjusted
means include values suggesting that our results cannot rule out
small to modest adverse effects (e.g., 0.3–0.5 standard deviation) of
farm location (Rice vs. Aqua) on some tests such as tapping and
divided attention. However, a much larger sample would likely be
needed to further examine these mixed results.
