To be conservative, antihypertensive medication use
was considered a potential cointervention if a woman
received it at any time during the week immediately preceding
their last ambulatory blood pressure monitoring
session. Of the 60 women with outcome data, 8 received antihypertension medication during this time frame,
with 75 percent (n = 6) from the guided imagery group
and 25 percent (n = 2) from the quiet rest group. When
we reran the t test with those with medication in the last
week removed from the analysis, mean arterial pressure
change was still 3.81 mmHg higher for quiet rest than for guided imagery (not statistically significant at a 0.01
level, but was at a 0.05 level)
