of hepatic γ-cystathionase, an enzyme of the transsulfuration pathway, are at their highest levels in lactating dams compared with gestating or virgin controls
(Barber et al., 1999; Akahoshi et al., 2006), a response
attributed to greater protein intake associated with the
enhanced feed intake in lactating animals (Barber et al.,
1999).
