It has been demonstrated that a difference
in test sensitivities and specificities exists between adults and
children, with urinary metanephrines being the most accurate test for
children [7]. Moreover, pre-analytical factors such as taking the blood
in the supine position, that is difficult to obtain in children, may
contribute to a correct measurement of plasma catecholamines [8].
