Theoretical Framework of the Study
Ball (1988a) divided SMK into two components, namely substantive knowledge of mathematics, and knowledge about the nature and discourse of mathematics (also known as knowledge about mathematics). Substantive knowledge of mathematics refers to the understanding of particular topics, procedures, concepts, and the relationships among these topics, procedures, and concepts. Knowledge about the nature and discourse of mathematics includes the establishment of truth, what it means to "know" and "do" mathematics, and what is logical versus what is conventional. The researcher has adapted theoretical framework of Ball (1988a) to analyze SMK for this study.
