Is it ethical to revisit research data for a new purpose?
Harrop and Swinson’s(2003)study of nature of question used by teacher was discussed in Chapter 3. Interestingly, the data analysed was not originally collected for the study reported for the study reported in that paper, but consisted of recordings of lessons made as part of an earlier "investigation into teachers' uses of approval and disapproval in infant, junior and secondary schools" (p. 51)
Question for reflection
Is it appropriate to use data collected for one study for substantially different purposes in another study?
