The course, hosted by the Center for Resuscitation
Science, Department of Emergency Medicine at the Hospital
of the University of Pennsylvania, is a recurring intensive 2-
day program including didactic instruction, group interactive
discussion, and practical hands-on simulation training [15].
The goal of the curriculum is to provide participants with
strategies to address many of the previously recognized
challenges to TTM implementation. The course covers a
variety of topics from a review of TTM evidence and
implementation to adverse effects and monitoring. In
addition, the course includes hands-on simulation scenarios
that allow the participants to apply the information they
learned in a simulated hospital care environment. Participants
were broken into teams (10-15 individuals) and rotated
through four 20-minute simulations with the opportunity to
lead 2 of the simulations with specific scripted roles for most
participants. Each simulation was staffed by 2 instructors and
was followed by a structured debriefing module. To ensure
program clarity, the educational course was pilot-tested with
a cohort of thirty subjects in October 2009.
