The characteristic of the P-SFL was listed in Table 2. The total
COD of the P-SFL reached up to 5978.17 mg/L while the total VFA
accounted for 65.17% of the COD. The initial COD was a little lower
but the proportion of VFA higher than the results of Jiang et al.
(2009), which were 6569 mgCOD/L and 39.67% of VFA/COD. The
concentration of COD was a little lower than the L-SFL probably
resulted from the lower value of MLVSS/MLSS (45.17–72.30%,
Table 1) of the sludge for fermentation. The composition of the
VFA was as followed: 41.6% acetic acid, 13.4% propionic acid,
15.5% n-butyric acid, 8.4% iso-butyric acid, 1.6% n-valeric acid
and 19.5% iso-valeric acid.
