Superficial Democracy"
Westerners should have asked themselves; whether those who support the Military Coup, enjoy being under Military Junta rather than Democratic regime? Well I don’t think anyone in the world would enjoy to be under any sort of restrictions, especially Thai people who tasted already Democracy for over eight decades.
Well with democracy that truly complies to an authentic definition of democracy; including good governance, transparency, respect to the rights of minority, opened for check and balance and investigation, everyone of us would have protect them with our lives.
However, with democracy that respects no one at all but those who share the same political mindset to the ruling clan; Democracy that refuses to be investigated in whichever way; Democracy that tranforms police authorities to Gestapo who maintain only ‘Government stability’ rather than ‘State Security’, what should be the level of tolerance we offer?
Those who support Military Junta are not those who oppose a ‘true democracy’ nor do we oppose ‘election’, but rather they are those who can no longer tolerate a ‘superficial democracy’. Their frustration expressed via a massive anti-government rally during the past six months. The military junta only completed that neither they nor any independent constitutional bodies, the court, National Counter Corruption Comissions, would be able to complete.
Surprisingly some cannot tolerate the lack of superficial democracy but offer maximum tolerance to heavy corruption, lack of transparency, disrespect of minotiry’s rights. For those who support the Junta, they simply offer zero tolerance to them. Are we wrong?
