H2. The hypothesis that families with a child having special
needs have more learning needs, less home fire safety knowledge,
and a lower proportion of adequate home fire safety
plans compared to families without a child with special needs
was not support by the current analysis. As was previously
stated, there was no difference by group [7]. Eighty percent or
greater of parents’ answered to 13 of the 17 questions with
‘‘yes’’, evidencing high burn prevention knowledge (see Table
3). At the follow-up phone call only one question was scored
below the 80% cut-off point; and only 57% of families had an
exit plan. Significant change ( p < 0.05) over time was shown in
12 of the 17 questions. Additionally, 9 of the 17 questions were
answered at 100%.
