2. Discussion
Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) is the most common peripheral nervous
system disease associated with Zika virus infection; however, all
cases of GBS occur in the post-infectious period and the onset is delayed
by days to weeks. [2] Our patient is the first confirmed Zika infection
case report associated with an acute sensory polyneuropathy which
began during the active infectious phase. Clinical and electrodiagnostic
evaluations were consistent with an acute non-fiber-length
polyneuropathy affecting mainly the small sensory fibers and to a lesser
degree larger myelinated sensory fibers. Acute Zika infection was con-
