Therapeutic Goals
Psychoanalysis and psychodynamic psychotherapy arc designed to bring about changes in a person's personality and character structure. เท this process, patients try to resolve unconscious conflicts within themselves and develop more satisfactory ways of dealing with their problems. Self-understanding is achieved through analysis of childhood experiences that are reconstructed, interpreted, and analyzed. The insight that develops helps bring about changes in feelings and behaviors. However, insight without change is not a sufficient goal (Abend, 2001).
