10.2.1 Welding procedure qualification test pieces shall be tested in accordance with the requirements of the code and this Engineering Standard. Test pieces shall be left for at least 24 hours after welding is completed before NDE and destructive testing is performed.
10.2.2 All welding procedure qualification test pieces shall be subject to visual examination and NDE.
10.2.3 Welding procedures subject to impact testing or step cool screening tests shall meet the requirements of L2CC-000-55-SP-8603 / SLCP-86-03.
10.2.4 Hardness testing when specified in Table 2 shall be performed in accordance with E°N1043-1. Specimens for hardness testing from test welds in the 5G or 6G positions shall be taken from the area of weld representing the minimum heat input. Unless otherwise agreed with Owner this shall be either the 6 o’clock or 12 o’clock position.
10.2.5 Where ferrite limits are specified in Section 13.4 for 300 series stainless steels, weld procedure qualification test pieces shall be subject to a ferrite determination using the methods in Section 13.4. 10.2.6 Welding procedures for duplex steel shall be developed by strict control on interpass temperature and heat input to ensure that the root area is essentially free of intermetallic phases (i.e. less than 1%). The root pass shall be welded by depositing a heavier-than-normal root bead followed by a second “cold” pass using a lower heat input (approx. 80%) than that used for the root pass.
10.2.7 In addition to the code requirements, welding procedure qualification test pieces for duplex steel shall be subject to the following tests:
