Data were analyzed using SPSS software (version 15.0; SPSSInc,Chicago,IL)andEpiInfosoftware(version5.01b; Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Atlanta, GA). Statistical analyses included calculation of odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs), χ2 tests with Yates correction, and the Kruskal-Wallis one-way analysis of variance. The level of significance for all statistical tests was α = .05. Descriptive statistics are reported for all strain/ sprain-related injuries, including multiple injury events for the same cheerleader, during the 1-year study period. Because of the small sample size for injured male cheerleaders, no comparisons were made between male and female cheerleaders. However, male cheerleaders perform a different role on cheerleading teams than females, and brief descriptions of their injuries and injury events are included in this article
