one good technique I use, even when I am not feeling down, is writing positive words. The more positive and encouraging the words are, the better I feel after doing it. It's really amazing. It's like getting raising your mood with almost nothing but writing. The key is, the more intense the emotions triggered while writing the better your will feel after you done. Another great thing is that you can use these texts later to improve your mood and to feel good. Whenever I come accidentally by one of those positive texts I wrote, I feel better.
