The environmental impact assessment with Ban KhunSamut Chin
Today, the alternative solution to the problem of coastal erosion has been conducted into two parts which are the triangular concrete pillars breakwater and the stone seawall.
The breakwater or known as ‘KhunSamut Chin 49A2’ by Professor Doctor ThonrawatJarupongsakul has the support from the Office of Research Fund and has guarantee from its experiments conducting in the area which can actually reduce erosion problem. The report predicts it can take back the land 1-2 meters within 5 years. However, this proposal has yet been decided as the lack of budgetary support from the government.
On the other hands, the stone seawall, the proposal of the Public Works and Planning Ministry of Interior Department, will be conducted along the coast of PraSamutJedee shore in total of 12 kilometers with a budget of 2,700 baht. However, it still has important questions about the impact on the environment and community which will take few years to complete.
The villager said that if there is no action within 2-3 years, it would be too late to correct the coastal erosion problem as Ban KhunSamut Chin have faced difficulties more than they can bare.
