Wat Arun is mostly known as a landmark of Bangkok. It is classified as a principal class Royaltemple. It is an old temple, built in the days of Thailand's ancientcapital of Ayutthaya and originally known as "WatMakok".Later on when Thonburi was the capital, KingThaksin changed the name to "Wat Chaeng". In a laterreign, King Rama II restored the temple and bestowedthe new name as "Wat Arunratchatharam". King RamaIV later made additional restorations and once morechanged the temple's name to the present one as“WatArunratchawararam". Most people call it "WatArun".
