The medical management of hypertension of two participants
varied from NCM recommendations and may have impacted
on overall blood pressure outcomes in this small study sample.
For one participant, their physician made the decision not
to increase the dosage of antihypertensive medication to
avoid lowering diastolic blood pressure and to increase the
pulse pressure range. This was done to maintain a mean arterial
blood pressure 70 mmHg or greater in order to provide
adequate coronary artery perfusion. For the second participant,
a family physician discontinued his antihypertensive
therapy just prior to the six-month follow-up visit because of
the participant’s reports of falling.
