Through the good offices of the mayor’s council on urban design the city and the state’s metrooplitan transportation administration agreed to set up a planing and design study that would relate project new development to the design of the transit lines themselves. An inter-agency committee was created, with two state members, the metropolitan transportation administration and the transit authoritym, and seven city members: the City planning department, the budget bureau, the transportation administratio, the housing and development administration, the mayor’s office, and the mayor’s council on urban design. The committee was called the transit/land-use working committee. The director of the urban design group served as the executive for the committee, and most of the staff was drawn form the design group.
