Li Wei was born in 1970 in China, in the province of Hu EIB. He grew up in Beijing, where he works and lives currently. It is one of the contemporary artists the most influential in his country to this day and concentrated its work on various features. It combines and several artistic mediums such as performance, the photograph, the installation or the video. Since 2004, the collective exhibitions or individual or are presented his works, in the East as in various countries of Europe, have given him an international reputation.
Li Wei is known worldwide for its singular way to put in scene, alone or accompanied, entered in positions confusing: hanging of two arm to a lamppost, jumping in the air, hunting by missiles, or launched in the air like a fagot by a female arm ...
Li Wei is amused by strange situations, irrational, always brought by a desire of weightlessness as a tear-off to our condition. These exercises require levitation devices combining mirrors, metal cables and acrobatics. The results, explosive and full of humor, suspend the time and the next. In the intersection of the physical feat and the frozen image, the photographic gesture of Li Wei will be disseminated in the park as germs to the imagination of the stroller.
The work of Li Wei mixture photography and performance, and reflect its scepticism in relation to the evolution of China, to the urban revolution in progress, in defiance of the citizens. His characters in flight are his way of say that he refuses the imprisonment of thought by the official line and by the imperative of enriching themselves, and also that he refused, he who is born in the province of Hubei, confinement in the inhuman cities. The art of Li Wei would no doubt pleased the Surrealists whose it is a cousin near.
