jinan, the capital of shangdong province in eastern china is currently undergoing some major urban developments, and will soon be home to the jinan grand theater designed by paul andreu architecte. the new performing arts centre spans an area of 72 000 m2 and whose programs will include an 1800 seat opera house, 1600 seat concert all, 500 seat theater, along with a 60 000 m2 retail and commercial area. the architecture forms of a landscape of mountain-like structures, emerging from the site.
 
the glass volumes are elevated above the ground are are situated in the city’s main thoroughfare, in the centre of a public garden opposing three towers. the contextual configuration of these three forms, as noted by local authorities, express ‘feng shui perfection’. construction is set for completion later this year.
