Types of process diagrams
1) Process Flow Diagrams
- for engineering and design work
- gives overall energy and mass balance
- gives concepts
2) Piping and Instrument Diagrams
- for engineers, operators and instrument people
- spec. instruments (flow rates, temperatures, pressures, etc.)
- have all instruments and piping down, size of vessels
- for instrument people, maintenance people, construction

Local Mount – mounted where the process is taking place
Panel Mount – mounted in a panel, usually in control room
Behind Panel Mount – i.e. don’t need to see it
