Fig. 2 shows XRD patterns of the powders from reactant mixture with and without LiCl after heat treatment at 400
o
C. The peaks of monoclinic and tetragonal zirconia were
found in pattern (a), (b) and (c). Furthermore, the LiCl peaks as by-product were also found in
XRD pattern. However, the intensity of zirconia and LiCl in patterns (a) and (b) are
higher than (c). The appearance of zirconia implies that the following reaction (Eq.
(1), Eq. (2) and Eq. (3)) proceeds during the heating at low temperature:
ZrOCl2.8H2O(s)+ Li2CO3(s) ZrO2(s)+ 2LiCl(s)+ 8H2O(g)+ CO2(g) (1)
ZrOCl2.8H2O(s)+ Li2CO3(s) + 2LiCl(s) ZrO2(s)+ 4LiCl(s)+ 8H2O(g)+ CO2(g) (2)
ZrOCl2.8H2O(s)+ Li2CO3(s) + 6LiCl(s) ZrO2(s)+ 8LiCl(s)+ 8H2O(g)+ CO2(g) (3)
