Since
microbial lipids can be produced using various waste streams
(e.g. whey, lignocellulosic hydrolysates) as substrate, it has been
considered a potential feedstock to support a sustainable biodiesel
industry. In fact, industrial waste and lignocellulosic material may
be used to provide sugar and nitrogen sources to produce lipids,
thus showing good characteristics such as short life cycle and
low affection by climate
