Particle size and surface area are the effective parameters of
photocatalytic activity of nanomaterials [38]. Therefore, photoactivity
of the coated samples using the nylon nanofibers
containing nano-TiO2 is more than that obtained with the nylon
nanofibers containing nano-SrTiO3 or nano-ZnO (Fig. 2b, A–C). This
is due to smaller particle size and bigger surface area of nanotitania
compared with nano-strontium titanate or nano-zinc oxide.
Also, as shown in Fig. 2b, repeat laundering did not cause any
remarkable changes in photoactivity of the coated nylon samples.
It is to be noted that, heat setting process allows producing a
durable photoactive nylon fabric.
