Skin is our largest organ with a surface of 1.5 to 2 square meters on an average sized adult. It acts as a shield against pathogens, UV radiation, heat, coldness and dehydration. It weighs approximately 13 kilograms and is therefore the heaviest organ in humans. Close to 2 billion skin cells protect the human body against negative external influences every day. As a sensory organ with several million nerve cells, skin allows for a fine sense of touch being able to feel heat, coldness and pain. Skin regulates our temperature and moisture. Our skin is quasi a multi-talent. Without it we could not live and that’s why we should thank our skin every day with an optimal skin care.
