Most entrepreneurs participated in a telephone interview averaging 61 minutes.
The interviews covered a wider range of phenomena than reported in this paper.
One interview was face-to-face. Entrepreneurs were coded E1 to E10 to maintain
anonymity. The results were analyzed for themes and patterns (Eisenhardt, 1989) and
explanation building (Yin, 2003) was undertaken iteratively. The construct was amended
as findings were revealed and a satisfactory explanation emerged to indicate what
success means to entrepreneurs in the context of entrepreneurship. Memos were used to
record thoughts and insights, note observations on the interviews and interview subject,
and maintain a journal of the study as it evolved.
