Much of the existing literature by Chinese-domiciled academics regarding how best to develop international accounting knowledge, expertise and skills in Chinese undergraduate students has been dominated by generalizations, but lacks specific directions or discussion. Furthermore, accounting education research in China is reluctant to explore the opinions and attitudes of accounting students or accounting academics. An exception is the study by Lin et al. (2005) of the perceptions of accounting practitioners, educators and students in China regarding knowledge and skills development. In the present study, we move toward addressing some of these generic inadequacies by seeking to learn from the results of a questionnaire survey of Chinese accounting students and by offering practical suggestions for improvements in areas of teaching and curriculum.
