("Wikiwiki" is the Hawaiian term for "quick.") As of 2012, Wikipedia had over 22 million article pages in 285 languages and 17 million registered users in the English Wikipedia alone. It is the word's sixth most popular Web site, with over 470 million monthly visitors looking to read and edit its pages. Since Wikipedia 's start in january 2001, there have been over 1.6 billion edits of content entries, but the sources (IP addresses) of all changes (although editing of more controversial article is limited to registered users). Users/editors are anonymous in the only their user names are known, but IP addresses can be traced back to the source.
