Wat Phra That Mahachai is composed of the 37-metre stupa regarded as a sacred monument as it houses relics of the Lord Buddha and Arhats. The temple also houses sacred Buddha images; namely, PhraPhutthachaiyasit, the principal Buddha image, as well as a Buddha image carved from a Neem tree, which is the largest of its kind in Thailand. The temple also offers one of the magnificent mural paintings of North East region. The temple was also where Luang Pu Kamphan known as Phra Soon Ton Ma Gon was resided. Wat Phra That Mahachai represents Wednesday; it is believed that those who are born on Wednesday should pray at this temple.
