The controller for a PWM switching rectifier must provide a variable duty-cycle for the semiconductors to ensure DC
output voltage regulation, power factor control and line current shaping. Therefore, the sliding mode control of the
input current is proposed, which is particularly interesting due to its known characteristics of robustness, system order
reduction [lo] [ll], and appropriateness to the on-off behaviour of power switches. This control theory being the
control equivalent to the management paradigm "Just In Time - JIT", has already been successfully applied to inverters [12], Boost type ac-dc converters [13] and Buck type ac-dc converters [14]. To control the DC output voltage
of the converter, a Proportional Integral (PI) controller is designed. This external voltage loop controls the amplitude
of the current reference of the current controller. As will be shown in this paper, this control scheme results in a very
simple overall controller.
