The Eiffel Tower’s considered to be one of the most striking pieces of structural art in the world. For most people it is the first thing that comes to mind when they think of France.
Situated next to the Seine River in Paris the tower stands 300m high and overlooks the entire city. It was named after its designer engineer Gustave Eiffel.
Completed in 1889 it is said that the tower was extremely hard to build because unlike modern skyscrapers the Eiffel Tower is an open structure and has no floors except its two platforms. Fortunately only one worker died during its construction thanks to Mr. Eiffel who made an effort to take good care of his workers.
At first the tower was met with great resistance from the public because people thought it was a monstrosity and did not go well with the city’s skyline. If you take into account that the tower was erected over 100 years ago you can imagine why people disliked this structure. However Parisians gradually became fond of it and today it has become the single most famous symbol of not only Paris but France as well.
