Treatment of OPF with C. subvermispora for 3 wks, and L. edodes and P. brevispora for 9 wks, seem most promising for
improving ruminal OPF degradability. However the mechanism of action is not only through lignin degradation, but also
by partial degradation of cellulose, a potential substrate for rumen microbes. This aspect should be investigated further in
future research on use of white rot fungi to degrade lignin in oil palm fronds.
