Up to now, many well-established analytical methods, such as spectrometry, atomic absorption spectrometry and inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) have been developed for the quantitative determination of total iron. However, all of the methods mentioned above require the expensive instrumentation and it is worth noting that the direct analysis of total iron in most environmental and food samples by spectrometries is difficult due to low level of iron at microgram.
